Gut microbiota switches p53 mutant from tumour suppressor to oncogene. P53 mutants (R270H and R175H) have been reported to play tumour suppressive role in the upper GI tract, by inhibiting activation of Wnt/b-Cat signalling. In the distal intestine (Colon), where gut microbiota is present in higher density, bacteria-released gallic acid appears to switch p53 mutants to oncogenic activity, abrogating its capability of opposing to Wnt signalling
