Design, purification and characterization of recombinant proteins. A, Diagrammatic representation of recombinant proteins purified from lysates of E. coli. Purified recombinant proteins were subjected to SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and were detected by direct staining with Coomassie blue (B), or by western blot using a PsaA-specific mouse anti-serum (C). The ability of BLyS-containing fusion protein to enhance the viability of splenocytes from C3H/HeJ mice was tested in the absence (D) or presence of a suboptimal concentration of polyclonal F(ab')2 anti-μ (E).
